Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

Community Housing Network, together with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), offers FREE Foreclosure Prevention Counseling, primarily in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

  • Are struggling to make your current mortgage payments
  • Have had a financial hardship
  • Have fallen behind on your mortgage payments
  • Received a certified letter from a foreclosure attorney mentioning there is only 30 days to call and "opt in”
  • Or have had a sheriff’s sale notice posted on your property

CHN provides Step Forward Michigan hotline, housing counseling team, for homeowners with delinquent property taxes

Community Housing Network is working with the Hardest Hit/Step Forward Michigan Loan Rescue Program providing up to $30,000 in assistance to eligible homeowners who have delinquent property taxes on their primary residence.

The Step Forward Michigan program began offering property tax assistance on January 15, 2013. Community Housing Network has set up a hotline at 248-269-1330 for those seeking help. Callers will be asked to leave their name, phone number, address of their home and the years for which they have unpaid property taxes. A representative of our housing counseling team will return calls.   more

Michigan Foreclosure Toolkit

Mi Foreclosure Resources ToolkitDo you, or someone you know, need to know more about how to prevent foreclosure? The Michigan Foreclosure Task Force, a program of CEDAM, recently launched the Michigan Foreclosure Response Toolkit .

The toolkit is intended for any individual, group or organization that wants to respond effectively to the foreclosure crisis in their own backyards. It is filled with Michigan-specific foreclosure-related information, resources, strategies for mortgage and tax foreclosure prevention and response, as well as best-practice models from around the state. It also includes resources for at-risk homeowners and advice on organizing a local, community foreclosure response effort. The Michigan Foreclosure Response Toolkit  is searchable, interactive and continually updated, providing the opportunity for Michigan communities to learn from one another as they address the foreclosure crisis.
