Jefferson Oaks features the adaptive reuse of the vacant Thomas Jefferson School building, including 20 one- and two-bedroom apartments and community space. The community also includes an additional 40 three- and four-bedroom townhome-style units. 21 of the homes are Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) units, with a project based voucher and additional supportive services. Jefferson Oaks is located on Republic Ave in Oak Park. The development was completed and fully leased in late 2018. The homes are available for families of mixed income levels earning between 30% and 60% of Oakland County’s Area Median Income (AMI). Jefferson Oaks offers multiple amenities including, a community space, nearby multiple community amenities such as public transportation, grocery stores, places of worship, recreational spaces and healthcare facilities, and onsite support staff.

Requirements for Living Here

The homes are available for families of mixed income levels earning between 30% and 60% of Oakland County’s Area Median Income (AMI). Please see table below for corresponding income limits. These limits determine monthly rents and which homes households are eligible for. Household’s for the PSH units are pulled from the county’s registry. To be placed on the registry you must meet HUD’s category one (1) definition of experiencing homelessness: living unsheltered on the street, living in a homeless shelter, living in a hotel being paid for by a service agency, living in a place not meant for human habitation. Applicants must pass a basic credit and criminal background check to qualify. For households with a gross household income at or below 60% AMI, rents range from $626-$979 based on family size and number of bedrooms. For households with lower incomes, lower rents are available. Jefferson Oaks accepts Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly known as Section 8 vouchers).

Transportation

Jefferson Oaks is located within a short, walkable and accessible distance of public transportation. The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) operates: Route 710, a westbound and eastbound, fixed bus route along Nine Mile Road. The closest stop along SMART Route 710 is located .10 miles from the development site. This fixed route runs both eastbound and westbound along 9 Mile Road at regular intervals. It also provides transfer service to these additional routes via the Northland Center and 9 Mile/Woodward intersection.
