Community Overview

Jefferson Oaks features the adaptive reuse of the vacant Thomas Jefferson School building, including 20 one- and two-bedroom apartments and community space. The community also includes an additional 40 three- and four-bedroom townhome-style units. 21 of the homes are Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) units, with a project based voucher and additional supportive services. Jefferson Oaks is located on Republic Ave in Oak Park. The development was completed and fully leased in late 2018. The homes are available for families of mixed income levels earning between 30% and 60% of Oakland County’s Area Median Income (AMI). Jefferson Oaks offers multiple amenities including, a community space and onsite support staff. There are multiple community amenities nearby such as public transportation, grocery stores, places of worship, recreational spaces and healthcare facilities.

Community Requirements

Jefferson Oaks apartments and townhomes is a mixed-income development. It is available for individuals and families earning between 30% and 60% of Oakland County’s Area Median Income (AMI). AMI is subject to change. These limits determine monthly rents and for which homes households are eligible. Household’s for the PSH units are pulled from the county’s registry. To be placed on the registry you must meet HUD’s category one (1) definition of experiencing homelessness: living unsheltered on the street, living in a homeless shelter, living in a hotel being paid for by a service agency, living in a place not meant for human habitation. Applicants must pass a basic credit and criminal background check to qualify. For households with lower incomes, lower rents are available. Jefferson Oaks accepts Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly known as Section 8 vouchers).
