IDD Housing Access Pilot Program
Creating Inclusive Housing Opportunities for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
Community Housing Network (CHN) is administering the IDD Housing Access Pilot Program, a statewide grant program funded through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) utilizing Housing Community Development Funds (HCDF). The pilot will offer an initial $2 million in funding for its first year, with an anticipated $2 million in year two, for a total of $4 million over two years. Its purpose is to help developers and nonprofits expand access to affordable, inclusive housing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across Michigan through both rental and homeownership opportunities.
An estimated 49,000 Michiganders with IDD face significant barriers to housing, including limited income, a lack of accessible or affordable options, and dependence on aging caregivers. The IDD Housing Access Pilot Program directly addresses these challenges by supporting the development of inclusive, community-integrated housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other neurodivergent individuals, prioritizing equity, accessibility, and choice.
