Al Martin
Vice President of Real EstateAl Martin believes that affordable housing is the foundation upon which vibrant communities can take root and flourish. As Vice President of Real Estate at the Community Housing Network, Al Martin is a seasoned leader with a 22-year tenure in the affordable housing industry in Michigan. He is responsible for pursuing real estate opportunities that align with CHN’s mission, including the development of affordable housing through Community Housing Network’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit efforts.
In his previous role as the President of ACERA, Inc., Martin served organizations with missions focused on the development of affordable housing. As a consultant, he facilitated the development of both multi-family and single-family rental and lease-to-own units across the state.
Martin began his career in affordable housing as the Executive Director of Rosewood Housing Development Corporation, where he supervised the development of 239 units of affordable, multi-family housing in Flint and Genesee County. Since 1998, Martin’s efforts have resulted in nearly $325M of development, representing over 1600 units of affordable housing. His work in this role earned him awards and continues to benefit hundreds of residents.
A graduate of Central Michigan University, Martin also volunteers with the Friends of the Shiawassee River and serves as a planning commissioner for the City of Owosso. His work has been recognized by the Flint Area Association of Realtors, the Great Lakes Capital Fund, and the Builders Association of Metro Flint. He has served on the board of directors for the Silver Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and is a former treasurer for the Community and Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM). Martin has also been a popular presenter on the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program for CEDAM’s Real Estate Development Boot Camp.
