At Community Housing Network, we know that getting an individual or family into a home is just the beginning of a brighter future.

A safe, affordable home provides stability, but it’s what happens after someone walks through their front door that truly changes lives. That’s why our work goes beyond helping people establish and maintain a home of their own. Through supportive services and community engagement we help create the foundation for long-term success.

During National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to recognize one of the most important parts of that work: the volunteers, including our resident volunteers who help bring families in our housing communities together through games, activities and more.

As a nonprofit committed to affordable housing, we understand that a home is more than four walls; it’s a place where people can feel safe, supported, and start to rebuild their lives.

But for many of the individuals and families we serve, the journey doesn’t end once they are housed. Adjusting to a new environment, building relationships with neighbors, making friends with other kids, and feeling a sense of belonging are all critical steps in maintaining stability.

That’s where supportive services and community engagement come in.

Throughout the year, Community Housing Network hosts community engagement events such as spring gardening, back to school parties, and seasonal holiday parties designed to bring residents of all ages together in a welcoming, supportive environment.

These events include:

  • Games and activities for families
  • Shared meals and celebrations
  • Opportunities to connect with neighbors

While they may seem simple on the surface, these events help residents build trust with one another, reduce isolation, and strengthen bonds with other neighbors, one of their support systems.

The volunteer groups we host are at the heart of these efforts.

During events, volunteers assist with everything from organizing and leading games and activities to serving food and engaging with residents. More importantly, they help create an environment where everyone feels seen, valued, and included.

By combining affordable housing with supportive services and opportunities for engagement, we are helping to create not just housing stability, but pathways to well-being, confidence, and independence.

Our mission at Community Housing Network is to empower people to live in affordable homes to help build thriving communities, and the community engagement work we’re doing makes that a reality.

National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize the individuals and groups who give their time and energy to support our residents and our mission.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on what it truly takes to build thriving communities.

Housing is critical, but it is not enough on its own.

It takes people.
It takes connection.
It takes community.

And it takes volunteers who are willing to show up and be part of something bigger.

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we invite you to be part of this work.

Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply learning more about our mission, you can help us continue building communities where everyone has not just a home, but a place to belong.
